Summer holiday bags delivered!

18th July 2019

The Andover foodbank has distributed 144 summer bags to local primary schools ready for delivery to families. The bags contain edible treats such as hot dogs, tomato ketchup, ice pops and dried snacking snacking fruit to enable children to enjoy a picnic, movie night or BBQ with friends. This pilot summer holiday project was a response to feedback from schools and other foodbanks about the difficulties that some families can face over the long holiday period because of a loss of access to school meals, reduced ability to work or an increase in childcare costs. The summer bags are not supposed to replace a normal food box but provide additional support so that children can enjoy the holidays and social activities. The foodbank has also produced a list of Free (or almost free) activities for children for children and events for children and families this summer. The generosity of local donors enabled the foodbank to complete this project. Feedback from local schools will determine whether the pilot is extended next year.
